Find The Words Purpose: The purpose of this program is to create puzzles containing up to twenty hidden words in a grid of random letters. The words can go in any direction horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. However, there can be no breaks in the letters. Uses: This program can be used to produce puzzles containing hidden words for either education and /or enjoyment. The resulting puzzles may be included in a publication or given to individuals to solve. There are many possible contents for these puzzles. Some ideas are; A list of spelling words, The class list, Family names, Historical figures, etc.. Operation: The program has no command line options, so it should be started by entering it's name Findword. The screen that appears will contain a double lined box on the right and room for a series of questions and entries on the left. Listed below are the questions in the order in which they are asked and the nature of the desired responses. Title of Puzzle: In this highlighted space you should enter the title of the puzzle as you want it printed above the puzzle(s) that are printed. After you leave this question you can not return without restarting the program so examine each word carefully before using the enter key to move on to the next question. Enter Words: It is at this point that you create the list of words to be included within the puzzle. You may enter any number of words between 1 and 20. The program will go on to the next question when you hit the enter key on a blank word or after twenty words have been entered. As each word is entered it will be listed below and a count of the total number of words entered is displayed. Phrases can also be entered, however, in keeping with the rules for this type of puzzle the spaces will be removed. After each word is entered there is no option to return to correct it so be sure it has been entered correctly. Print Puzzle: After all the words have been entered you will be asked if you want to print out the puzzle. As no printer control or special characters are used printing should work with almost all printers. Hitting the 'Y' or 'N' keys for (Y)es or (N)o at this point will answer this question. If you answer no then the program will end. However, if you answer yes you will be asked the following questions. Number of Copies: If you responded that you wanted to print the puzzle, then you will be asked how many copies to print. The range of choices is from 1 to 99. Variable Puzzles: When you choose to print more than one copy of your puzzle you will next be asked if you want variable puzzles. If you answer (Y)es then each puzzle will be different from the others. This can be useful in cases such as a class where you want everyone to have the same words but not share answers. A (N)o answer will result in the printing of identical puzzles. Print Answer: The next question asks if you want the solution of each puzzle also printed. A (Y)es response will produce a solution page after each puzzle page. The hidden words are printed in capital letters and the surrounding random letters are printed in lower case. After answering this question printing will start. As printing progresses there will be a listing on the screen of the number of puzzles printed.
